Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to the Lianpak  FAQ section.
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about bin liners, refuse sacks, drawstring bags, wheelie bin liners and recycled plastic waste bags.

What does “gauge” or “micron” mean for bin liners?

The gauge or micron rating refers to the thickness of the plastic bag material.

In the UK, bin liners are often measured in:

  • Gauge

  • Microns (μm)

As a general guide:

  • 4 Gauge = 1 Micron

  • The higher the micron or gauge, the stronger and thicker the bag.

Typical Thickness Guide

Gauge Microns Typical Use
100 Gauge 25μm Light duty household waste
120 Gauge 30μm Standard domestic use
140–160 Gauge 35–40μm Strong everyday refuse sacks
200 Gauge 50μm Heavy duty commercial waste
300 Gauge 75μm Builders & garden waste
500 Gauge 125μm Rubble sacks & industrial waste

At Lianpak, many of our premium UK-made bin bags use strengthened recycled materials to provide better puncture resistance and carrying strength.

Are thicker bin bags always stronger?

Generally yes, but thickness is not the only factor.

Bag strength also depends on:

  • Material quality

  • Recycled plastic composition

  • Manufacturing process

  • Seal strength

  • Density of the plastic

Sharp objects such as glass, metal or rubble can puncture most liners regardless of thickness.

Higher quality bags are designed to stretch rather than split under normal household or commercial waste loads.

Why choose clear bin liners instead of black bags?

Clear bin liners are commonly used for:

  • Waste segregation

  • Recycling identification

  • Security checks

  • Commercial or office waste

  • Schools, hospitals and warehouses

Black bin bags are usually more economical and are the most popular choice for general household or commercial refuse.

Clear bags allow you to easily identify the contents without opening the bag.

What is the difference between pedal bin, swing bin and square bin liners?

Different liners are designed to fit different bin styles.

Pedal Bin Liners

Designed for:

  • Small bathroom bins

  • Kitchen pedal bins

  • Compact household bins

Usually smaller capacity liners.

Swing Bin Liners

Designed for:

  • Swing-top bins

  • Flip-lid bins

  • Slide-top bins

Typically medium-sized household liners.

Square Bin Liners

Designed for:

  • Standard square or rectangular bins

  • Office bins

  • Open-top waste bins

These are the most common all-purpose liner style.

What do the bin liner measurements mean?

Bin liner measurements are usually shown in this format:

Width × Open Width × Length

For example:

18" × 29" × 39"

Means:

  • 18" = sealed bottom width

  • 29" = maximum open top width

  • 39" = bag length from top to bottom

Please note:

  • The open width is NOT the circumference.

  • Measurements may vary slightly between manufacturing batches.

How do I convert inches and gauge into metric sizes?

Conversion Guide

  • 1 inch = 2.54 cm

  • 4 Gauge = 1 Micron

Example

A:

  • 4" × 6" × 150 Gauge

is approximately equal to:

  • 10.16 cm × 15.24 cm × 37.5μm

What are drawstring bin bags?

Drawstring bin liners include built-in tie handles that allow the bag to be:

  • Closed easily

  • Lifted more conveniently

  • Carried with less mess

They are ideal for:

  • Kitchens

  • Office waste

  • Household bins

  • Garden waste

  • Heavy domestic use

Many Lianpak drawstring bags are made using strong UK recycled plastic for extra durability.

What are wheelie bin liners used for?

Wheelie bin liners are large heavy-duty bags designed to fit:

  • Outdoor wheelie bins

  • Garden bins

  • Commercial waste containers

  • Large refuse bins

Benefits include:

  • Cleaner bins

  • Reduced odours

  • Easier waste removal

  • Protection against leaks

Popular sizes include:

  • 120L

  • 240L

  • 300L

Are your bin liners made from recycled plastic?

Yes.

Many of our products use volume pricing.

This means:

  • Larger quantities receive lower unit prices

  • Trade customers and bulk buyers receive better value

  • Discounts apply automatically at higher quantity breaks

The “from” price usually refers to the lowest available bulk-buy price.

Please provide:

  • Previous order number

How can I choose the correct bin liner size?

A good bin liner should:

  • Fit comfortably around the rim

  • Reach the bottom of the bin

  • Allow enough overhang for tying or closing

As a general guide:

  • Choose a liner slightly larger than your bin dimensions

  • Heavy waste may require thicker bags

  • Taller bins usually require longer liners
